About Laurence King Publishing

Laurence King Publishing holds a pre-eminent position globally as a publisher in the creative arts. It is a position we’ve built with great care and commitment since we were established in 1991. Our books are acclaimed for their quality, vision and erudition. Authoritatively written and beautifully designed, they cover advertising, architecture, art, the decorative arts, fashion, film & animation, graphic design, interior design, photography and product design.

In all Laurence King books the emphasis is on quality of information, design and production. Some of our books are works of reference on the arts for the general market, some provide technical information for professionals in this field, and some are textbooks for students. Many Laurence King books, for a range of audiences, show the latest developments in the creative arts

In 1991 we published a reference book that is still at the core of our list – A World History of Art by Hugh Honour and John Fleming. Now in its 7th edition, it remains unrivalled in its geographical scope, lucidity and illustrative content.

Laurence King series

In 2005, we launched the Portfolio series. Aimed at creative arts students, there are currently nine books in the series – Book Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Illustrator, Interior Design, Photography, Type & Typography, Editorial Design, New Media Design and Packaging Design.

In 2009 we launched the Portfolio Skills series. There are now two books in the series - Digital Textile Design, and Drawing for Interior Design. Portfolio Skills is an accessible, authoritative, and beautifully designed series of books, written by educators at leading art and design schools and aimed at students in the creative arts. Designed to accompany undergraduate courses in architecture, fashion and textile design, graphic design, product design, and interior design, the books explain the practical skills needed by students throughout their studies and on into their professional practice. Each title is extensively illustrated with step-by-step instructions on key methods and techniques. Additional resources, including test banks and instructor manuals, are available in the academic section of the website. Affordably priced and attractively packaged, the titles in this series are peer reviewed and are being adopted by an increasing number of institutions.

We also publish two series on architecture – Plans, Sections and Elevations, which we launched in 2004 with Plans, Sections and Elevations: Key Buildings of the Twentieth Century, and Detail, launched in 2007 with Detail in Contemporary Residential Architecture.

All our books are available through this website, and worldwide through bookshops and distributors.
